Over four unforgettable days, trek through lush rainforests, alpine heaths, and crater rims while spotting giraffes, buffaloes, and colobus monkeys along the way. After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, you’ll depart around 9:00 AM for Arusha National Park. On arrival at Momella Gate, you’ll complete the park registration formalities and meet your dedicated mountain team, including an armed ranger to escort you through wildlife zones. The trek begins through open grasslands and lush rainforest. Keep your eyes open — giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, and monkeys roam freely here. As you ascend gently along the lower slopes of Mount Meru, the path winds through forest trails rich in biodiversity. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut in the afternoon and take in the magnificent views of Meru’s crater walls and ash cone. Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and a peaceful overnight stay above the clouds.

After a warm breakfast, set out on a steep but scenic trail that zigzags through lush montane forest. Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna as the trail leads to Elephant Ridge, where you'll catch stunning views of the Meru Crater and the majestic cliffs. By early afternoon, arrive at Saddle Hut, nestled beneath the towering peak. After lunch and a short rest, there’s an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m). This short hike offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance and helps your body adjust to the altitude. After descending back to the hut, enjoy an early dinner and prepare your gear for the early morning summit attempt.

Wake up around 1:30 AM for a light breakfast and begin your summit ascent under the stars. The trail climbs steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m), offering breathtaking views of the crater below. The terrain varies from sandy paths to rocky sections with steep drop-offs, so stay close to your guide and take steady steps. Reaching Socialist Peak (4,566m) by sunrise is the ultimate reward. From the top, witness panoramic views over the Meru Crater, the glowing ash cone, and the snowcapped peak of Kilimanjaro on the horizon — truly one of Africa’s best-kept mountain secrets. After savoring your summit victory, begin your descent back to Saddle Hut for a hot meal and short rest, before continuing the descent to Miriakamba Hut for your final night on the mountain.

After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely final descent through open meadows and forest trails. Upon reaching Momella Gate, you’ll receive your climbing certificate for reaching Socialist Peak — a well-earned accomplishment. Say farewell to your mountain crew and enjoy a scenic drive back to Arusha, where a warm shower and well-deserved rest await.
