This short but rewarding adventure takes you through the scenic Machame Route to the Shira Plateau—the third and lowest peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Perfect for those with limited time or who want a taste of the Kilimanjaro trekking experience without going all the way to Uhuru Peak, this trek offers stunning landscapes, diverse vegetation zones, and breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

You'll hike through misty rainforest, explore dramatic moorlands, and summit Shira Peak at 3,872 meters—all while camping under the stars and being supported by our professional mountain team.

Tour Highlights:

Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Airport – Transfer to Arusha/Moshi.
Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (3,000m).
Day 2: Machame Camp (3,000m) to Shira Camp (3,840m).
Day 3: Shira Camp (3,840m) to Shira Peak (3,872m) – Descend to Morum Picnic Site (3,407m) & Return.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. After check-in, your mountain guide will meet you for a full pre-climb briefing, gear check, and to answer any last-minute questions.

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate where the adventure begins. While the team registers and organizes gear, you’ll begin your ascent through lush montane forest, home to blue monkeys and colorful birdlife. The trail gradually climbs to Machame Camp, located at the edge of the forest zone. If the skies are clear, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Kibo Peak glowing in the distance.

Today’s trek takes you above the tree line into open moorland, with panoramic views stretching far across the African plains. You’ll pass stunning rock formations and unusual high-altitude plants like giant Senecios and Lobelias. After arriving at Shira Camp, enjoy lunch and relax before an optional sunset acclimatization walk to prepare your body for the next day..

〽 Elevation Gain: 840 meters | Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

After an early breakfast, set off for the summit of Shira Peak—Kilimanjaro’s third highest peak. While lower than Kibo, it offers incredible 360° views and is a great achievement for those seeking a manageable, rewarding trek. After taking photos at the summit, continue through the beautiful Shira Plateau, briefly joining the Lemosho Route before reaching Shira 1 Camp for lunch. Then descend to Morum Picnic Site, where your vehicle will be waiting to drive you back to Moshi or Arusha.
