After summiting Shira Peak, you’ll descend through the stunning Shira Plateau and return by vehicle from Morum Picnic Site, making this a convenient and fulfilling journey.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi town. Once checked in, your mountain guide will meet you at a convenient time for a full briefing and final gear check. This is your time to ask questions, review the day-by-day plan, and prepare mentally and physically for your Kilimanjaro adventure.

After breakfast, you'll be driven approximately 3 hours to Lemosho Gate, the starting point of your trek. Once registration is complete and lunch is served, your mountain journey begins. The trail meanders through dense, untouched rainforest, where you may spot colobus monkeys, tropical birds, and towering fig trees. The cool forest shade and vibrant greenery create a magical atmosphere as you gradually ascend. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (“Big Tree Camp”), tucked beneath tall trees in a serene woodland setting. Settle in, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest under the stars.

Leaving the forest behind, today’s trail climbs steadily into the heather and moorland zone, where the landscape opens up to sweeping views and unique high-altitude flora. Along the way, you’ll pass giant heathers, volcanic boulders, and flowering groundsel, with your first full views of Kibo Peak—Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped summit—in the distance. The expansive Shira Plateau comes into view as you approach Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll arrive in the afternoon. Take time to rest, explore the surroundings, and soak in the beauty of this volcanic plateau.

〽 Elevation Gain: 730 meters | Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

After an early breakfast, your hike continues across the wide, rocky terrain of the Shira Plateau toward Shira Peak (3,872m)—the highest point of this short expedition and the third volcanic summit of Kilimanjaro. The climb is gradual, offering sweeping views and the rare chance to summit one of Kilimanjaro's original cones. After spending time at the summit taking photos and enjoying the moment, you’ll return to Shira 1 Camp for lunch.

In the early afternoon, you’ll begin a short descent to Morum Picnic Site, where your vehicle awaits. From here, you’ll be driven back to Arusha or Moshi, arriving in the late afternoon. Enjoy a hot shower, relax at your hotel, and celebrate your remarkable achievement on Africa’s most iconic mountain.
